After you have done the recovery, try to boot your PC without your 500GB
hdd. If your windows 7 can boot (without the 500GB hdd), now you know that
your win7 and its MBR are intact. After that, you have to reconfigure your
grub to know where to find your win7.

to re-configure your grub, install os-prober
$ sudo apt-get install os-prober

then run this command
$ sudo update-grub
