Public bug reported:

Firefox will not open in raring when you click on the icon in the
launcher. It will however open when you execute firefox from the command
line.

I noticed that when you click on the icon it creates a defunct process.

$ ps -A|grep firefox
24939 ?        00:00:01 firefox
24943 ?        00:00:00 firefox <defunct>

I also see this message in the xsession errors:

(process:24939): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_slice_set_config: assertion
`sys_page_size == 0' failed

(firefox:24939): GLib-GObject-WARNING **: cannot register existing type
`GdkWindow'

(firefox:24939): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_once_init_leave: assertion `result
!= 0' failed

(firefox:24939): Gdk-CRITICAL **: gdk_window_get_display: assertion
`GDK_IS_WINDOW (window)' failed
