After almost an hour of searching and experimenting, I found an item on the
Internet that talked about double-clicking the title bar. That did the
trick, but Firefox now always starts in full-screen mode and I have to
double-click it again to see the desktop. At least it works. I loved Ubuntu
10, but am just not crazy about the new dumb-downed desktop. I am a fairly
experienced user with time spend on both Redhat and Solaris systems and it
appears to me that Ubuntu is now more geared to the non-professional. For
instance, I spent more time than I think I should have had to the other
night just to figure out how to get a Terminal window ...then last night I
couldn't remember how I did it! Maybe it's just early senility, but I don't
think so :-D. Also, when I right clicked on a main menu, I expected
launcher properties that would tell where the associated app was located,
but I didn't get any information. Finally, I went into Settings and checked
the Accessories icons to have it show up on the main menu, but it didn't
appear. Ubuntu does a great job on updates, which I really appreciate, but
my experience with the new release is less than stellar and I will likely
experiment with at least one other Linux variant before committing to it.
Unfortunately, based on my experience with Ubuntu 10, I installed the new
version on my hard drive alongside Windows XP and I'll likely end up
uninstalling it. Hopefully that won't turn out to be too difficult!
Thanks for the reply,
Leo
