I've just installed the 0.8.5 package from the PPA to give it a shot,
and my first result on the YouTube website was gray boxes for all flash
objects.

After talking with Craig and comparing our installed gstreamer packages,
I've determined there seems to be a missing dependency on
gstreamer0.10-nice. After I installed that package YouTube at least
shows stuff - I haven't checked to see if it will play videos yet.
