Ok, thank you for the information! It's ok, since I'm german, too.
However, please tell me:

* Are you using pop3 or imap to connect? 
* Which version of the package do you have installed (aptitude show mozilla-thunderbird)

Have you tried to download mails after adding the new 'Mailbox'? Thanks
