I'm using Ubuntu 8.04.1, with the KDE desktop. The package is Firefox
3.0. 'apt-cache policy firefox' results in:

firefox:
  Installed: (none)
  Candidate: 3.0.1+build1+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.8.04.3
  Version table:
     3.0.1+build1+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.8.04.3 0
        500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com hardy-updates/main Packages
     3.0~b5+nobinonly-0ubuntu3 0
        500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com hardy/main Package

After a crash forcing a reboot, Firefox began to display text incorrectly. Each word was separated by a space that took up the width of several characters, as though three or four spaces were there instead of just one. The cursor would jump the entire distance, so it's not extra spaces. I also copied and pasted between Firefox and a word processor. The processor's text was fine; Firefox's was distorted.

This display problem affects the text on the page, the menu and tab
text, dialog boxes, and anything else containing text.

I tried removing Firefox and all traces of its files and directories
(the hidden ones in the home directory, as well as in /usr/bin and
/usr/lib, then reinstalling, but that didn't work.

I also tried using firefox -ProfileManager to create a new profile, but
again this didn't work.

I've attached a screen capture to show what I'm talking about.

** Affects: firefox (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
