Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: flashplugin-nonfree

Gutsy Gibbon 7.10
Firefox 2
flashplugin-nonfree

Plugin was working (relatively) fine for months. Occasionally would
freeze FF if tried I tried to close a tab, requiring a forcequit.

However, this is my problem now: The plugin was working earlier in the day yesterday (Oct 11th). Starting just last night, loading any kind of Flash video (i.e. Youtube) or animation (such as from deviantArt or games in Gaiaonline) locks up Firefox 2 completely before the loading is even done.
I uninstalled the plugin with a Mark for Complete Removal, reloaded the repos, and tried to reinstall, but the problem was still there. did not have any libswfdec or libflash packages installed when I double-checked the second installation.
Gnash (at least the version in the Gutsy repos) is unsuitable as a replacement, it will not play Youtube videos or properly display flash animations.

The installed version of the plugin is 9.0.124.0ubuntu1~gutsy1, which is
also listed as the latest version in the Synaptic window. The Firefox
version (installed and latest) is 2.0.0.17+1nobinonly-0ubuntu0.7.10

** Affects: flashplugin-nonfree (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
