Confirmed on ubuntu 8.04 amd64 and i386. On amd64, it eventually worked
after I reinstalled flashplugin-nonfree.

On i386, I still can't get the flash plugin to appear in the registered
plugins list (location: "about:plugins"), no matter how many times I
reinstall flashplugin-nonfree. and restart firefox (3.0b5).
