Thank you for responding so promptly. I have further investigated this
bug and have been able to narrow down how to reproduce it. My
thunderbird mail configuration is:

* two IMAP accounts
* one pop account (gmail)
* local folders

The problem occurs when I click on the sent folder in local folders. It
has never occurred with any other folder, and it never occurred under
Ubuntu Dapper Drake LTS (until a few days ago I had both LTS and Feisty
Fawn on this computer).

For me to reproduce the bug I do this:

1. Start thunderbird. Welcome to Mozilla Thunderbird! message is displayed in message pane.
2. Click on any folder or subfolder, as long as it is not Sent in local folders
3. Look for the message "Loading message..." to be displayed.
4. Click on Sent folder in local items
5. Notice "Loading message..." appear briefly before hard crash. There is no opportunity to click on a message or do anything before the crash.

It does NOT crash if you:

6. Start thunderbird. Welcome to Mozilla Thunderbird! message is displayed in message pane.
7. Click on Sent folder in local folders before clicking on any other folder
8. Click on a message in the Sent folder

However repeating steps 2-5 will cause the crash, after having done
6-8.

Extensions I have:
View headers toggle button 1.5.2
Xpunge 0.2.2
Display quota 0.1.10.2
ConfigDate 0.3.9
Display mail user agent extension 1.3
Nostalgy 0.2.1
English (GB) language pack 1.5.0.10

I have included a command line stacktrace of steps 1-5.
