Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: transmission
Currently in /etc/default/transmission-daemon we pass --auth argument to
transmission-daemon. It is redundant as /etc/transmission-
default/settings.json already contain rpc-authentication-required option
set to 1/true.
Because of that users can't disable authentication for transmission
webui even if they change it in settings.json - also because of the way
transmission-daemon writes configuration their change will be most
likely overwritten when they restart daemon.
There shouldn't be a problem of leaving users with insecure daemon as
default setting is to require authentication.
