I am not sure about if this it's a real issue or not because if you go
to Preferences->Source Specific->Source->Audio Cds you are able to
choose which format you want use to import automatically, even Ogg -
Wav and MP3.

Title:
Can't import CD as MP3 in Natty

Status in “banshee” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: banshee

Under 10.10 I am able to go into Banshee preferences and set the
Import CD format as MP3. However, this option is not available within
  Natty.

Since I need to import my (and my wife's) cd's into a format which is
readable on the various computers and devices we use, MP3 is a
requirement. It would be the same for a lot of new converts...

There is probably a package to be installed, but if MP3's can play "out of the box", then why can't they be imported as well?
At the very least a pop-up message advising what needs to be installed would be helpful.
