This is really annoying ! Just lost a very important note yesterday after a system crash. Found two 0-length files - apparently I have lost one more without noticing.
System: Ubuntu 10.04 , ext4, and Tomboy 1.2.1

Title:
Tomboy data loss on system crash, when using ext4

Status in “tomboy” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: tomboy

My laptop crashed. When I rebooted, I couldn't find the Tomboy note I had open before. Looking closer I discovered a 0-length file in ~/.local/share/tomboy/ which was all that remained from my note. I restored it from a backup, but lost all changes made today.

I hadn't made any changes to the content of the note in the last hour prior to the crash; the only changes were to the cursor position and/or the location of the note on my screen. Losing data because Tomboy wants to preserve those details is not very nice...
