The point is that it acts "more standard" compared to several other icon you are likely to have in your tray.
It is also very difficult to show/hide with a two button PC laptop.
Ironically, the patch was written by Ryan Lortie on a one button Apple laptop.

The patch was never applied upstream because as you are aware the
original author of Muine is vehemently against it.

You yourself filed a bug in Debian asking for this same change.
Do we really need *two* bugs about this?
