Additonally for QT in KDE environment there is a Qt configuration step
suggested in this documentation site (look under "Gtk and Qt
configuration" heading at the bottom of this page):

I got qtconfig installed from universe repo - it is available there as
two versions: "qt3-qtconfig" and "qt4-qtconfig". I chose to install
both via Synaptic PM.

After installation, on launching "qtconfig" from a terminal, I found
that it uses the version 3 only (and so inclusion of "qt4-qtconfig" is
probably not mandatory)

I am not using KDE / SKIM.  So, anyone of you using such environment,
do please comment on whether that qtconfig setting  of XIM Input Style
to "Over the Spot" makes a difference and how important. (The other
options for this in the same qtconfig dialog window are: "On the Spot"
which is the default, "Off the Spot" and "Root").
