i have resurrected my old pc somehow and am back to translation.
i have only the RC1 installed. i ran out of the download quota last month.
i went in through to the tamil setup and was glad to find that so many of
the programs are available in tamil interface.
still to try them out.

mayuran indicated that apt causes a problem
yes, it also looks like the rest of the tamil menu which appears disjointed.
mayuran, did you manage to make the menu in the rest of the applications
look normal? how?
as the person who had translated that package i am sorry that some trouble
has been caused. i apologise.
still i think it is workable.
you can still put in commands in english and get things done.
is there any problems in english input for apt in the terminal?

can you also give us a list of programs whose translation is to be deferred
for the present till the terminal problem is fixed?

and knowing how smart you are i am sure now you can show people how bad it
looks in the terminal and pester people for change to accommodate tamil
input in terminal in a proper manner.

friends please note that they have now added a link in almost all the
programs in the help menu.
it says translate this application.
click that and you are taken to the right place in launchpad.

ramadoss, it is high time some methodology is put in place about
translations before more people start coming to launchpad.
the urgency to publish the help pages for the how to translate has also
increased.
can i put aside the translation work for the present and work on this?

ps
the following programs are not translated and they appear as default in
ubuntu.
people who want to take fresh projects may consider this list.
office -all applications
graphics all applications
sound and video all except rhythmbox.
to my surprise translate this application extends to firefox too and i am
going to check it out.
