I could reply to this here, but I suggest you go to irc channel #ubuntu 
and ask such questions there
as starters get much better responsiveness there, this is mainly a 
mailinglist for facts around irc itself.
I don't want to push you back, and nothing wrong with just asking, but 
there are better places to get started.Also there is ubuntuforums and 
good howtos on the web for a welcome fresh user.
For now -quick 'n dirty- :sudo apt-get install synaptics && sudo 
synaptics     entered in a terminal will
give you a first simple gui to install soft . Google hint : Ubuntu 
perfect desktop. If you are new to
irc, I might be willing to help you to connect there, and don't feel 
'beaten to the forehad', but email in my eyes isn't the right place for 
supportquestions like yours; as said feel free to mail if problems with
