For what I've been able to see, all IRC operators consider good manners and
friendliness a priority.
So much that, when someone in the channels is knowledgeable but treats users
who are just looking for help harshly, we generally tend to take him or her
aside (or in #ubuntu-ops) and explain how their behavior is unwelcome.

We'd rather lose someone knowledgeable but unfriendly to users than let them
give the channels a bad reputation - although it's painful when someone
otherwise valuable leaves just because they can't deal with being friendly
to "newbies".

Lastly, don't forget that many users expect friendliness when they,
themselves, show no respect towards the channels and the people who are
helping them. Those are often the loudest complainers.
