This is how lightdm autologin is done, same for KDE etc. A script in scripts/casper-bottom is the way to go. Either in the casper package, or another package for the live environment that places the script in the initramfs under scripts/casper-bottom.
I see that there is already a scripts/casper-bottom/15autologin that
probably already does what I want it to do, but how do I get it to
run?
To build the ISO, I'm currently using
https://code.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-gnome-dev/+junk/iso-build-script
but I'm going to try live-build over the next week or so.
