Can grub-installer support SD memory card?

Dear Sir or Madam:

 

I have tried to install Ubuntu 8.04 into SD memory card. But boot loader
can't install into the card successfully.

I think grub-installer can't recognize the SD memory card as bootable
device. Is it right?

Could you give me some advice that how to install the boot loader into a
SD memory card through the grub-installer?
