alternate cd installation endless loop

While trying to install alternate cd i386 the following problem appears:

"Please insert the disc labeled: 'Ubuntu 8.10 _Intrepid Ibex_ -Release
Candidate amd64 (20081022)' in the drive '/cdrom/' and press enter."
