SIR,
       CAN WE INSTALL PROGRAMS FROM CD ,DVD, USB IN A UBUNTU SYSTEM COZ I HAVE PC WORLD DVD 

CONTAINS SOME LINUX SOFTWARE AND I CAN NOT ABLE TO INSTALL IT AS THAT WE DO ON 

WINDOW SYSTEMS .

IS INTERNET IS THE ONLY WAY TO GET SOFTWARE INSTALLATION ON UBUNTU

 LINUX SYSTEMS?

Yes, you can install software from anywhere just like Windows but the only problem is there is not set standard for setup files found on the internet. Technically there is one (*.deb) but nobody follows it,  You’d find all sorts of extensions like .bin .pkg .so .tar .gzip etc and there’d be a tutorial somewhere on the internet for installing those, which you’d have to look for. That’s why it’s always a good idea to install your software from Ubuntu Software Centre, it’s a sort of App Store you’d find it in the main menu of your OS. Just open it, search for the software you’re looking for and click on install. You’re good to go.

 

In the internet speak, writing in ALL CAPS is considered as Shouting, so please TURN THAT THING OFF!! :-)
