[ubuntu-in] Problems Installing Ubuntu in newer branded laptops

Hi

Over the past 6 months i have had the opportunity to Install Ubuntu on dells
and lenovo and the HP laptops

The Dell Inspiron series, the HP DV series and th Lenovo B series

In all of them there has been a problem with Ubuntu's ability to recognize
the pre-existing partitions

The dell come preloaded with 3 partitions - Dell Utility, Dell Recovery and
Dell OS

The Lenovo similarly

For the HP DVi cannot remember exactly

the Grub Boot loader used to be able to recognize the recovery partition (in
my own Lenovo T series)

However of late Ubuntu Linux seems tobe able to recognize only the main OS
partition and none of ther others.

Have other people faced this and if so is there a work around - maybe after
install or before install ?

would appreciate knowing what others are facing and what they do in these
cases
