This is because, dual booting any two OS's will require a few learnings as
to disk partitioning, boot loaders and such. If you decide to shrink your
Win7 partition and make a new partition for Ubuntu, pl make sure you boot
into Win7 atleast once after the partitioning is done to let Win7 write the
changes to itself.

Also remember that dual booting can be tricky if you have to reinstall any
OS.
