[ubuntu-in] Virtualbox 3.1 in Ubuntu 9.10 - problem loading USB devices

Hi

I installed VirtualBOx 31. , after downloading directly from the
location given below

Its the first download on this page
http://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Linux_Downloads

Ubuntu 9.10 ("Karmic Koala") i386

I thought that this would have USB device support built in but it does
not seem to show up my usb devices (rather they are non selectable)

So whats the issue - do i need to install anything else ??
