It depends on the way you download, say if you download using browser it
will take /tmp  to temp storage. If you use Transmission it will download
directly where you want say /media/hda6 in your case

  You can use dd command to transfer entire file system to another file
system with more space, but don't forget to update the grub, I cannot assure
this method for sure.
