Sagar,
If you need to post relevant config/log files, please be sure to
remove your company specific info and use a service like
http://pastebin.com/ (do not post to this list). For point 2, you'll
want to install vim-full (sudo apt-get install vim-full).
Can you describe the problems 1 and 3 in detail so that we can help
you better?Are you using NFS mounted home directories? As far as I
know a default installation of Ubuntu uses dhclient to get IP
addresses. If you have a DNS server running, the IP addresses should
be assigned automatically.
You could also compare the relevant configuration files on the older
(Ubuntu 7.10 ) client to get a better idea. Configuration files of
major services/applications do not usually change drastically.
