this is a known bug in fiesty, for those still on this venerable
version. at times you may suddenly find your mp3 not working in one
software, while working in another, and a lot of other random
problems.

my solution: keep 'updating' the fiesty distro, *without* upgrading it.
you'll soon find some partial bug-fixes, and my once-broken system
started working again.
after a few weeks, it gave some problems due to an update, and the
next set solved them.

so just hang in there if you wish.
