i think you need to check your resolv.conf.
try adding the following into your /etc/resolv.conf.
nameserver 64.202.97.1
nameserver 64.202.97.2
these are some third party dns servers. They work for my Tata Indicom
connection, (when the default ones they give are very slow). Should work
for you. Let me know how it goes
