i did that once. lived to regret it. this was circa dec 2007. i
suffered the worse downtime that lasted a long time, and actually
started doubting my hardware. the ilug-d mailing list is replete with
several questions and calls for help and support as i could not figure
out what went wrong. i needed newer versions of some apps, as the
plain-vanilla feisty had slightly older versions, but the upgrade had
broken many things.
finally, i did a clean clean install. started from scratch again.
avoided that 'upgrade' button like the plague. happily clicked
'update' and now i regularly apply all updates the moment they arrive.
touch wood, the system's stable, yet i have my newer and upgraded
software apps. wheew!
so my conclusion: apply updates regularly and after a two or three day
wait after each new update, works! why the wait, just in case there's
a quick bug-fix that got caught, or the servers are overloaded.
