HI Anurag!

Try issuing the command 'pppoeconf' as root in ubuntu while the moden is
switched on. It will auto check the 'access concentrator' (a rather
complicated sounding anme for the modem, in layman terms) and ask a few
basic question regarding the setup which are explained wonderflly well.

It will then prompt you for the login id & password (get dispalyed in clear
text while the setup is being run). Thats it the setups is complete.

Connect to the Internet using the 'pon dsl-provider' (as I've typed it,
dsl-provider is what has to be used, no substitutions) and disconnect using
'poff' commands.

I can't recollect whether or not to issue this command as root. You ay try
with a normal user first and then try with root if it fails.
