[ubuntu-in] FOSS-Multimedia software

i am an engg student , we got Graphics and Multimedia paper this sem...
We are given some multimedia project like creating small animated movies etc,that has to be completed before this month  we are suppose to use FOSS based software for this .
          Is there any FOSS based  multimedia software like Macro Media flash,Photoshop etc ...... which can run on windows because still most of my friends were still hanging with windows xp and vista 
         Google search engine pointed me to some some FOSS based software ,i downloaded with my slow speed Internet connection but i am not satisfied with those things .Thats why i am asking you guys ,dont point me again to google .
