Hi all,

Cybermohalla labs is working on a custom desktop install cd for Kubuntu (Oct
2006 release codename edgy eft) with the following changes:

0. hi_IN-UTF8 locale installed and selected by default. this is a huge bug in
kubuntu as by default the hi_IN locale is not a UTF-8 (unicode) one, rendering
all non-english filenames as ????s
1. all german, french, spanish support removed
2. all korean/chinese/japanese fonts (AFAICS) removed (huge amount of space
taken up by them)
3. hindi language packs installed incl. kde language pack
4. all non-local language files removed (from ar_SA to zh_TW (Arabic to
Chinese)) . This includes man pages and docs in all languages that are not UK,
US or Indian English or in Hindi (Unicode and non-Unicode) - this saved 30 mb!
4. edgy-updates universe, multiverse, plf repositories enabled (basically all
the repositories that i have ever needed)
5. flashplayer 9 beta
6. lynx
7. acrobat reader, it's plugins and mozilla acrobat reader plugin
8. all multimedia codecs (incl. w32codecs)
9. dvd read support (including decss3)
10. gimp, gimp-python (gimp effect scripts), gimp-data-extras, gimp-svg, gimp-print
11. xbill ;)
12. nmap ;) ;)
13. ms truetype core fonts (verdana, times new roman etc.)
14. dhcp3 server
15. changed default timezone to IST
16. openssh-server (how could they have missed this out??!!??)
17. easy to use bolnagari phonetic hindi keymap
18. scim incl. scim-m17n (ready for skim bolnagari keymap)
19. most recent collection of Free & public domain fonts - incl. uttara,
sanskrit2003, code2000
20. firefox 2 :) ( hope this fits )
21. removed windows programs to save space (speedcrunch, firefox etc.)
22. mc
23. pinfo

Don't have the bandwidth to upload the iso (when it's made), but will burn
copies for anyone who comes (pref. with blank cds) to the Cybermohalla R&D lab
in Sarvapriya Vihar - mail me if you are interested.

This will probably be the base distro used in the cm labs - maybe this (or a
variant) can be a candidate for the distribution to be used in the ISF media lab.

cheers,
karim
