How did you configure the dial-up connection ?
I suggest you install the wvdial package. After installing the package, open
a terminal and run this:
wvdialconf /etc/wvdial.conf
Then sudo vi /etc/wvdial.conf, and delete the semi-colon before the last
three lines, and fill in the appropriate details as necessary (number to
dial to, username and password).
To connect, use sudo wvdial, to disconnect press Control+C in the terminal.
