bug fixes feedback for the UDS

I'd appreciate that kind of info.  I submitted a patch against hal a
good while ago on launchpad and it's still in the new state.  I'd love
to know how to fix it properly but I found the amount of information
to be a bit overwhelming and I haven't had the time to dive in and
make sense of it all for the past while.
