I don't see why we need to fragment away from the Ubuntu instance. I really think we should just use that (ubuntu.slack.com) so that anyone on

I think you are confused here, you don't need an ubuntu.com email for ubuntu.slack.com, you can invite users with any email. However having an
ubuntu.com email address allows you to bypass the invite process.

Also we are not limited to 1 channel, we can make more if needed, as many as you like!
