Regarding [3]. While you can not create a new file by default with a clean
install, there is a way. Go to your ~/templates folder, create a blank file
(text.txt, rich.rtf, libre.odt, script.sh etc), then in any other folder
you can create a file from one of those templates. It's an extra set up
step, but works like a charm at that point. I also usually add a few
templates with specific permission, such as a text file with chmod 755.
Allowing me to execute it as a script without having to make it executable
after creation.
To expand upon that, this feature could be improved upon by having a
handful of default templates included with a clean install. I found it
frustrating the first time I tried to create a new text file. I don't use
nautilus much (terminal guy here), but a lot of other people do.
