How did you 'upgrade' to 3.8? Did you follow the steps as advised on
the Gnome3 PPA and used:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

It's important when installing the GNOME3 PPA (to get 3.8) that you
use the dist-upgrade option of apt-get not just 'upgrade'. And
'upgrade' will leave unfulfilled dependencies.
