Partition editor in install not working as expected

[microsoft_blows at comcast.net]

This is just a spare pc I use for testing. I considered loading live or 
the "something else" option, but losing the last install wasn't a 
problem. I can easily set it up again and run through other options.

Scenario:
PC installed with Ubuntu 12.04.2 Server edition

Created bootable usb drive install from another pc (Ubuntu 12.04) using 
Ubuntu-Gnome 13.04 iso
Started PC with usb drive connected.
Installer started.
Chose English.
Chose to install rather than Try.
It found the previous installation of 12.04.2.
Prompted install options (Upgrade, Alongside, Erase, etc.).
Chose Alongside.
Part editor started.
Drive was listed in dropdown.
Visual drive shown (two representative blocks with split for resizing).
I could move the blocks, but the reaction of the screen was slow. Mouse 
was working fine.
Moused over "advanced partition editor".
It took a while (10 seconds) for the cursor to change to the pointing hand.
Clicked link with no reaction. Tried several times.
Moved off link, and back, it still would not accept the click.
Quit button was active, Back and Continue were grayed out (disabled).
Quit button did not function when clicked either.

Power cycled machine and tried two more times with the same issue.
