Felix,
I'm not sure if I understand your question, but in Ubuntu you generally use Archive Manager (File Roller) to deal with zip files. You can find instructions at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/File%20Roller#Usage
New users such as yourself should visit the 'Absolute Beginner Talk' forum at http://ubuntuforums.org/. You'll find other more specific forums there as well. The Ubuntu-eduation list is for questions relating to Linux/Ubuntu in an educational environment.
You may also wish to join your local Linux Users Group: http://www.pdxlinux.org/
Welcome to the Linux community.
