[ec2] Nagios Issue

Hi Micah,

I'm curious to know if you really need to monitor Amazon's gateway.
We use Nagios to monitor about 10 instances in our setup and do not
monitor any hardware which falls exclusively under Amazon's control.
That is, if it was truly down we would see that our services were down
for the impacted instances anyway and I'm not sure that Amazon
wouldn't already know about the problem.

Just a thought!

Also, since the default host check for nagios is usually an ICMP-based
ping check, are you certain that your gateway allows pings? I'll
check when I get into the office.
