It's probably http://trac.osgeo.org/gdal/ticket/2494 - well, that fixed a
similar problem for us under Intrepid, and is alluded to by that nabble
thread. Run gdb on it and when it crashes do "thread apply all bt" - it
should show a *lot* of sincos() calls :)
