Eric Hammond and I have both experienced a similar issue where sometimes
instances would take a VERY long time to start, while commonly they
would just start in just a few seconds from the same image. There is at
the moment no way to reproduce the problem and the absence of console
output makes it very hard to debug that piece.

For the moment, I would recommend "solving" this issue by killing an
instance to which you have not been able to log in after 5 min and start
a new one. Please keep us inform of the frequency at which you observe
this problem as we may have to speak with Amazon about it in order to
solve it.

Thanks a lot,
Nick
