wiki mentoring

Hi :)
in case i didn't say so earlier welcome in chap but i think quite a lot of us here probably feel that you are the longer term person welcoming some of us in.
Quite a few people here seem very new so it's kinda a fresh team with just enough (hopefully) longer term members. I think the group is already settling in well and there is some good activity going on on-list with some useful discussions about infrastructure while at the same time a fairly healthy amount of real work going on.
If people want private help with the wiki-editing skills then you can always try me off-list but please don't rely on me making a swift response! Prolly best to try a few people at the same time. I liked Phills links to more formal support but sometimes i think nothing quite beats just rolling up our sleeves and trying things out with a bit of an occasional nudge from others. i just wish i could easily re-post those links from Phill!
Good luck all and regards from
Tom (just a lurker) :)

As such I'd be happy to hold such a session which will, hopefully, remove the mistaken view that you have to be 'a higher authority' to actually take part in editing the wiki area and re-enforce the fact that "we were all complete beginners once".

Sergio, who has taken on TL for lubuntu wiki/docs has a good knowledge already but wants to learn more. As Ubuntu Beginners Team has ceased, it is for the teams themselves to work out a mentor system. If we do not have such a system, how do we ask people to get involved?

Hello Phill, and everyone else :)
First of all, allow me to yet again introduce myself.
My name is Ali and being 'heavily' involved with Ubuntu Communities for the last 3 years (24/7/365), the best way to introduce myself is to post the link of my Wiki Page: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/amjjawad
Now, what I am trying to explain here?
Simply, I'm former Lubuntu Wiki and Documentation Team Leader. Now, I am Ubuntu GNOME Wiki and Documentation Lead. What else? areas of my involvement are: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/amjjawad/AreasOfInvolvement
For now, I had to drop 'Support' in favour or:
1. Testing
2. Communications and Social Media
3. DocumentationSupport was the key to my current skills and experience. It was the gateway to everything. I wish I could have time to go back to something like: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1812877 but I can't find the time for it.
Again, what I'd like to say here:
1. I do agree with each and every word Phill has highlighted
2. Phill is my Mentor/Sensei and he can vouch for me in needed :)
3. When it has been decided to shut down Ubuntu Beginners Team, I had a plan to start a new Team but I think the easiest way for that is to have few members from each team to take care of this mission, that is taking the beginners under their wings
4. I am offering my help and support and I am ready to cooperate with Phill and hold session but for me, I don't prefer IRC, I'd prefer Google Hangout, just like vUDS (had a session with Nicholas) and I don't mind to talk solely or with someone else. I believe visual learning is much faster and better than reading and writing.
5. In order to spread the word and bring more contributors, and because Social Media is my game, I'd suggest to start new pages on Facebook and Google+ for Ubuntu Documentation Team. If you agree, let me know and I'll be more than glad to create these pages.
I am just like Phill, recharging and not yet on my FULL Speed and/or Power. But, just for everyone here to know, Phill is not alone and he and all of you have gotten my full support and help, just name it.
Thank you so much!
Well Said, Phill and I am glad that you have chosen this path. No one on Ubuntu Community can question your Wiki and Documentation Skills and Experience and yet again, it is a pleasure to work with you, side by side after we have done so much for Lubuntu for the last 2 years.--
Remember: "All of us are smarter than any one of us."
Best Regards,
amjjawad
