Good morning,
I adore Ubuntu :-)
The only snag is that none of my friends either want to try gnu linux of
any flavour
or have actually heard of it or how to install and use it.
Even when told it is free for life!
Even when I offer to do it for free too!
Even when shown how quick it is too boot and update!
Even when shown how little is required to keep it running with Bleachbit!
They are suspicious of software that could be a great way for them to
learn new
skills etc.
This bug is still very much in evidence:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1
The only people I know who use it
are advanced computer users with years
of experience who aren't worried about
'getting their hands dirty with their pc'.
I think the installer is lovely, especially on a pc
with no operating system.
But a person with no knowledge of computers
will go straight to a store with a pc with windows on it.
Even after a recommendation of GNU Linux!
How did we get to this situation....?
Kind regards

Hi Raiyah,
You are 'sort of' using linux already...Apple uses Free BSD....
I suspect your IT team will of heard of it, but will not know how to
burn discs
or use it with windows.
I suggest on a windows machine using 'VMWare Player' after burning the
linux disc.
It is very effective. A good way to trial linux.
To burn a linux disc use Infrarecorder. Its great!
http://www.ubuntu.com/download/help/burn-a-dvd-on-windows
Strangely Windows 7 burning technique does not seem to work!
If the above is too much hassle Linux User and Developer
or Linux Format magazines from WhSmith usually
have these distros on them on their cover discs.
The easiest to use linux distribution is Ubuntu.
It is amazingly fast...and pretty!
Though there are plenty of others to choose from...try Distrowatch,
it lists them.
Machines with No Operating System can be got
for £149 (Desktop) or £269.99 (Laptop) and work very effectively from
Ebuyer. Zoostorm is the manufacturer. Monitor will be extra.
Documentation is via google at Ubuntu Manual.
There is real scope for moneymaking here...and it is very robust.
Hope this helps.

Dear Simon,
Thank you for your email.
I am sorry to read of your disappointment with regards to the brands
that we currently sell. We do consider the brands that we have in our
assortment very carefully, with regards to their specifications and
popularity, and I am sure that you can appreciate that unfortunately, we
are unable to offer every brand.
However, please be assured that I have passed your feedback onto our
Buying Team, so that Linux can be looked into and investigated further,
so that hopefully in the future we can consider selling this brand.
Thank you for your feedback and for taking the time to contact us, and
if I can be of further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Kind regards,
Raiyah Ismaiel

Good evening,
Why are all the computers in your showrooms only running apple or
windows operating systems?
With linux now a serious contender, is there a chance that we might see
a linux machine on display soon.
Linux is 20 years old and in some flavours is very easy to use :-)
I look forward to your views.
Kind regards
Simon
