Hi :)
As others have pointed out there are support forums and mailing lists that can spend more time on details.

This is a good one about Gnu&Linux in general
http://www.linuxquestions.org

For specifically Ubuntu the official (and OpenSource) forum is at
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu
note that to ask a new question there is a green + sign near the bottom of the 2nd (ish) box on the right-hand side.

A popular forum (but privately owned, note the ".com" instead of ".org" or whatever) for specifically Ubuntu is
http://ubuntuforums.org/
People tend to assume it's the official one for some reason.  Still, it is an excellent forum and very popular.  A good and friendly place to get answers for all sorts of issues despite being moderated.

The use of restricted formats is something you have to take personal responsibility for.  In many parts of the world it is fine to use them but in others copyright laws and such protect the interests of large corporate organisations against nefarious old grannies and others who just want to watch a movie or play a song or few.  Such companies have the right to dictate what equipment you use and how you use it when watching their songs or movies.

Some people have signed a petition in support of Freedom of Speech but obviously the poor corporate boys in the USA are against such anarchy
http://www.internetdeclaration.org/freedom
So, if you want to use restricted formats then you might want to check that you have the right to listen to or watch the things you own in the privacy of your own home, or where-ever.

You might also be interested and able to make use of other work done by the MultiMedia crew over at Medibuntu (Multimedia, Entertainment & Distractions In Ubuntu)
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Medibuntu/
The restricted formats page overlaps a lot of what they do but i tend to just copy&paste instructions from both pages in countries that are less restrictive about personal liberty than the USA.

Regards from
Tom :)

Hi,
When I try to send emails to others who don’t have Ubunta such as Windows they can’t open it. How do I get around this?
Also, I cannot play a DVD which is part of a soft ware provided for recording tape to a computer as its based on windows.

Many thanks,
