I definitely agree 100% with this sentiment. However I think you've
picked the wrong place for documents in this case. wiki.ubuntu.com is
not a website for documentation, it's for Ubuntu team organisation and
contributor information. We have a central resource for documentation
related to Ubuntu - it is help.ubuntu.com. I'd highly recommend that
any documentation created on wiki.ubuntu.com be moved to the help wiki
at help.ubuntu.com/community. I don't see any reason why derivatives
of Ubuntu can't also use that website if they would like to. The
Lubuntu material could live happily at
help.ubuntu.com/community/Lubuntu.
As to the original post, I think there are two questions here. One is
whether the theme of the Kubuntu documents which are shipped with
Kubuntu in html form can be refreshed to get a new theme. The other is
whether a website could be set up to host those documents online.
As to (1), I think it would be great to update the theme for the
Kubuntu documentation to bring it in line with the new website. Is
anyone interested in working on that? I'd be happy to review any patch
to the theme code and to give pointers as to where the relevant files
can be found in the lp:kubuntu-docs bzr branch.
As to (2), if derivatives of Ubuntu would like to set up their own
website, I think that is reasonable too. I wonder if we could
investigate a way of using help.ubuntu.com for this purpose, given
that Ubuntu and Kubuntu collaborate so closely on documentation and
have a single core team with access to both sets of documentation, it
would make sense to try and use that website, but perhaps implement a
system whereby help.kubuntu.org goes to the same place too so that
Kubuntu has its own dedicated url for help. That would be similar to
the system used for wiki.kubuntu.org.
I recall that someone in the Kubuntu team had worked on a help wiki
theme similar to the one used on the Ubuntu help wiki. I think it was
Ryan Kavanagh so I've copied him in. Ryan, is that initiative still
active? What stage did it get to?
Does anyone have any ideas about how we could use help.ubuntu.com for
Kubuntu documentation?
