It's not a dumb question. The original reason for doing this was that
the MoinMoin authentication was not done directly through Launchpad
and therefore user/password authentication required the use of HTTPS.
I don't know whether now that openid is used, https is still required,
because my knowledge doesn't go that far. I'd be interested in hearing
comments from people a bit more clued up than me!
