Hardware Compatibility Database Proposal/Inquiry

During a recent conversation with my fellow members of the documentation
team, we have been attempting to come up with a simpler, easier, and
more efficient way of tracking hardware that is currently supported (or
supposed to be supported).
As you may be aware, we currently have a page dedicated to this, located
here:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/HardwareSupport
However, with the increasing number of hardware components constantly
being added increasing at an alarming rate, it is quite difficult to
keep up with.
It is our belief that if we centralize this information into a database
repository of some kind with a pretty front-end (that we can work on),
it would not only allow us to keep the hardware documentation
up-to-date, but allow our teams to work together so that you might know
about hardware bugs sooner. We were wondering if either, or both, of
your teams keeps such an easily accessible database of this information
which includes what does/does not work, and if it is supposed to work,
how to make it work. And if one does not exist, would your teams be
interested in collaborating on such an endeavor?
We are open to discuss any options/suggestions that any of you might be
able to offer us.
We look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Marc Kaplan
