These are all good thoughts. However, we need to think about what the
purpose of the guide is in order to figure out whether some of these
changes are appropriate - to my mind there is no need for the Switching
to be a comprehensive guide to using Ubuntu, because the rest of the
system documentation has that aim already, and it may simply be better,
rather than (for example) embarking on a section about synaptic, to just
explain how software installation works in Ubuntu, and refer to the
system docs for a more detailed explanation. The same applies to the
terminal, and so on. That way the Switching guide is a lighter and more
readable introduction to Ubuntu, which can be used as an effective
marketing tool.
