programs autostart

Hi!  I don't know if I did this right but, I'm writing to ask if I can
install other programs from disks originally intended for windows? I have
been cracking my skull trying to figure that out. I'm unfortunately new to
the Gnu/Linux world and I don't understand almost anything from it.  I do
love how it feels to have something different.  Please help me. I still
haven't received your disks but I will continue to wait.
